CHAPTER 4 PART 2 - EXPOSITION TEXT

How was your day? I hope you are always in good health. Here I want to explain the material about “EXPOSITION TEXT (2)”

Exposition text is a type of text that is used to explain the views of an author on an issue.

  The purpose of writing the Exposition include; invites the reader to understand an issue raised by the author. 

STRUCTURE IN EXPOSITION TEXT :

1. Thesis

 This section will contain the issue or problem that will be raised, while in the analytical exposition this section will contain the position, opinion or attitude of the author.

2. Argument 

 The section that contains the opinions or arguments that the author begins to explain.  Both the hortatory exposition and analytical exposition have the same explanation in this section.

3. Reitaration

 Reiteration is a conclusion.  The hortatory exposition will contain recommendations or suggestions from the author on the problem that is the theme of the writing.  While the analytical exposition, this section will contain a re-statement from the author.

EXPOSITION TEXT TYPE :

1. Analytical Exposition 

 Analytical exposition is a type of exposition text that begins with a statement that shows the author's attitude or position, then is supported by various arguments and closes with an affirmation or restatement of the opinion stated at the beginning.

2. Hortatory Exposition

 Hortatory exposition is a type of exposition text that begins with a statement that contains an issue or problem, then is supported by various arguments and supporting evidence that lead to a point of view.  Finally closed with suggestions or recommendations from the author.

LANGUAGE STRUCTURE :

 • Using the simple present tense.

 Many use conjunctions such as because of, so, therefore.

 • Contains arguments.

 • Many use words that contain cause and effect.

 • Using vocabulary that is able to arouse the reader's emotions, such as: Amused, concerned, innocent.

EXAMPLE :

- The Importance of Reading :

I personally think that reading is an important activity in our life. Why do I say so?

   Firstly, by reading we can get a lot of information about many things in the world such as science, technology, sports, arts and culture.

   Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and knowledge about something happening in any part of the world which we can see directly.

   Thirdly, reading can give us pleasure. When we are tired, we can read books, newspapers or magazines on the entertainment column such as short stories, comedies or quizzes to make us relax.

   Based on the facts above, it is obvious that everyone needs to read books, newspapers, magazines or others to get knowledge, news, information and also entertainment. In other words, we can say reading is truly important in our life.
